Secondary Design Teams

Surveying Team

The Surveying competition at PSWC is about measuring large distances and elevations as accurately as possible. The three main tasks of the competition challenge us to use surveying tools and basic trigonometry to obtain the distance between inaccessible given points. In addition to making the most accurate distance calculation, we must also race against the other schools to find the answer first. This is a great way to get involved in the conference even if you don’t have a ton of time during the week, so come help USC ASCE win and learn a skill that could help you in your future career!

We’ll have surveying practice on Friday afternoons from 4p-5:30p starting January 29th (location TBA).

Don’t worry if you don’t have any experience in surveying, we’ll teach you everything you need to know about using the equipment and techniques!

If you are interested, please email Saina and Lucy at: surveying@uscasce.com

Transportation

In preparation for PSWC, the Transportation team will practice and implement highway design principles to create a practical and efficient design for the I-405 to I-710 freeway interchange area. For anyone with interest in transportation this is a great opportunity to get experience working on a project with a team. We are also looking for a team captain! If interested in being on the team or captaining, contact Alex (adtanner@usc.edu) or Marissa (mvknutso@usc.edu).

Concrete Bowling

The concrete bowling team works to design and produce a concrete bowling ball. Members bowl with the ball against other schools at the competition and it's a lot of fun!

Contact team captain Noah at cherner@usc.edu.
