USC ASCE Newsletter for February 24, 2016

Hi ,

We are having MANDATORY meetings for everyone who is going to PSWC. we have two meetings on March 8th and 9th.

Also PSWC is having a donation toward fighting childhood hunger called "Coin Drive". See bellow if you are interested

The Beach day is this Saturday, March 5th. We will be playing volleyball and having a great time. See details below.

 If you are interested in a position on the E-Board next year, you can start attending the E-Board meetings this semester to get more familiar with the positions. See below for more information.

The design teams are meeting this week. We will have Surveying practices from next week as well. See below for design team meeting schedules. If you haven't payed your membership, or PSWC dues yet, please make sure you do it this week.

The membership form is available here!  Dues are $30. You can submit the membership dues to our mailbox in KAP 213, to our treasurer Jason Loui, your design team captains or at an upcoming meeting.

Mandatory PSWC Meeting

Those of you coming to PSWC, we are having mandatory meetings in two weeks on March 8th at 7:00pm and March 9th at 7:00pm in KAP (location tbd). We will go over liability forms and then have some updates on PSWC. Please email mvknutso@usc.edu or adtanner@usc.edu if you cannot make it to either of these meetings.

ASCE LA YMF Student Night and Job Fair

Date: Friday, March 4th, 2016
Time: 2pm-5pm, Job Fair, 5pm-6pm, Dinner 6pm-8pm
Cost: $20
Venue: LA Hotel Downtown (333 S. Figueroa St.) - we will coordinate rides from USC together

Featuring companies and firms across the metropolitan area and students from 11 local universities, SNJF is the premier event for student job opportunities and recognizing student accomplishments through awards and scholarships. Come to support your fellow Trojans and network with other students and professionals in the Los Angeles region!

Coin Drive

This year at PSWC there will be a coin drive! It is supporting "Share Our Strength, No Kid Hungry" to help fight childhood hunger. If you have any loose change or just want to donate (we will take cash money too!), please bring them to either the manidtory pswc meetings (March 8th or 9th) or our general meeting on March 10th.

USC ASCE E-Board Meetings

Every Wednesday at 8AM, KAP 209
E-Board meetings are open to all USC ASCE members for the spring semester. Join us if you're interested in helping out or running for an elected position for next year. Breakfast is provided!

Steel Bridge

We're continuing to work on our bridge so if you're free come and help us out!

Concrete Canoe

This week, we're going to be working on the section and continuing to sand and patch the canoe.

Environmental

This week, we will be continuing to work on the environmental design paper and compiling data from our lab analysis. After submission next week, we will go right into building the final version and running tests! If you would like to get involved or receive environmental meeting updates, please shoot an email toenvironmental@uscasce.com.

Surveying

When: Tuesdays 5-6 PM

Where: in front of BHE

The practice will involve learning how to set up the total station and how to work with it to measure distances and elevation and other cool things.

Additional Opportunities

FE Preparation Course ( CE-495)

This spring semester, The Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is offering a 1-unit CE-495: Seminar in Civil Engineering which will be focused on reviewing the topics covered on the Fundamentals of Engineering exam with an emphasis in surveying. The course will be held on Fridays from 2 - 2:50pm in KAP 165. Please see the attached syllabus for more information.
