Info session: LA County Transportation Ballot Measure

Date: Wednesday October 26th at 6:30PM

Location: VKC 152

Phil Davies, the president of ASCE LA YMF will be at USC to talk about the LA County Transportation Ballot Measure. It will have an enormous effect on the job market that you will be graduating into. Should it pass it will provide $120bn of transportation infrastructure investment into LA County. These projects will require Engineers of all disciplines; Civil, Geotechnical, Structural, Transportation, Environmental, Mechanical just to name a few along with Architects, Planners and laborers. The Workshop for Student Chapter Leaders (WSCL) is a training session for new student officers in ASCE Student Chapters. This year the conference will be held at the LA Hotel in downtown Los Angeles from January 13-14 (Friday and Saturday). USC ASCE is pleased to once again offer our members the opportunity to attend this fantastic event, where students learn more about ASCE, build leadership skills, and network extensively with student leaders from across the west coast (ASCE Regions 8 & 9) and civil and environmental engineering professionals.

Registration Fee: FREE for USC students if you register by November 4th, after that $80/person (includes the workshop, breakfast, lunch and reception on Friday, breakfast and lunch on Saturday). The Friday Evening Social Event may be an extra charge, depending on which WSCL you are attending.

Schedule: New this year! Continental Breakfast Friday morning! 
Check-in either Thursday evening 7:00-8:00 pm OR Friday morning 7:45-8:30 am.The workshop will begin at 8:30 am Friday and end at 3:00 Saturday afternoon. (In Los Angeles, there will be a Sneak Peek of the DREAM BIG movie at 5:30 Saturday that you might not want to miss!)

Concrete Canoers!

We'll be working on our canoe design mockup and continue developing our mixes this week! Meeting times/locations are as usual:

Don't forget long pants and closed toe shoes if you're coming to mix design/construction.

Also, if you want to paddle at PSWC, now is the time to come out to paddling practice! Practices will be on 10/29 (this weekend), 11/6, 11/13, and 11/20, so mark your calendars.

Infrastructure Vision 2050 Challenge for Futuristic Transportation Systems

HEROX is reaching out to the problem solver community to conceptualize a futuristic transportation system for the third and the final phase of the Infrastructure Vision 2050 challenge.

The Build phase is seeking transportation solutions which will carry people from wherever they are to wherever they want to go, and do so in a way that far exceeds the efficiency and safety of today's transportation models. It should be able to serve the United States population in the year 2050 and beyond.

Prize Details: The total prize purse for the build phase is $ 100,000 USD. In addition to monetary prizes, winners shall receive tremendous exposure for their work.

Application Instructions: Last date for submission is December 15, 2016. No entry fee is required. Innovators may originate from any country.
