Phil, the stuffed philanthropist hedgehog is visiting us from the ASCE Foundation. This week he's been to the concrete canoe aesthetics sub-team meeting, sat in cardboard chairs, and made us waffles!

As you may have noticed, we have a visitor from the national ASCE Foundation: Phil the Philanthropist Hedgehog! Look for him at our events and check out all of his travels on our facebook page.

We're holding a resume workshop on Thursday 11/14 at 6pm in THH 144 with Civil/Environmental Engineering Professionals from ASCE MLAB YMF. Email your resume to uscasce@usc.edu by tomorrow (10/31) so they can review our resumes in advance and give us better feedback!

Our next general meeting is next Thursday, 11/7 at 5:30 in KAP 158, and it will be followed by the MLAB YMF Student Roundup at 6:30 with CSULA, CSUN, LMU, and UCLA. Free food!

We have a lot of events with ASCE MLAB YMF coming up; check out Elise's blog post about the different sub-groups of ASCE to learn more about them.

Concrete Canoe and Steel Bridge have their regular meetings this week, details about everything are below. Our Environmental and Geotech design teams will be holding their first meetings soon, come to the general meeting for more information about them and PSWC, our big conference in April 2014!

On Thursday, 11/14/13 at 6:00 pm in THH 114, USC ASCE will be hosting a résumé workshop with the ASCE Los Angeles Section Younger Members Forum (ASCE members post-college to under 35).

If you would like to have your résumé reviewed and to reserve a spot for the workshop, please email your résumé as a pdf to uscasce@usc.edu by Halloween (10/31/13, tomorrow!).

During the workshop, Civil/Environmental Engineers will offer insights and résumé tips as well as review your submitted résumés individually and/or in groups. This will also be a unique and valuable opportunity to network with industry professionals in the LA area!

(If you send your résumé early, more professionals will be able to look at it and you'll get more feedback!)

Our next general meeting will be on Thursday, 11/7, at 5:30pm in KAP 158. We will be reviewing past and future events, bringing updates from our design teams, including information about Environmental and Geotech's first meetings and the official announcements of the canoe and bridge themes, introducing our special visitor Phil, and looking ahead to upcoming events.

Immediately after our meeting, at 6:30, we're hosting the ASCE Metropolitan Los Angeles Branch (MLAB) Younger Members Forum (YMF) Student Roundup in KAP 146Other universities will be sending students to USC to give updates on their student chapters. Since we are the hosts, it would be awesome for us to have lots of representation! It will also be a great opportunity to meet other ASCE students and professionals!

Long Beach Tree Planting Program

ASCE MLAB YMF Tree Planting Volunteer Opportunity on 11/9/13

Please join us in volunteering with ASCE YMF for a tree-planting event. This will take place in Long Beach on 11/9/13 from 9:00am-12:00pm. Concrete Canoe Sub-Team Weekly Meetings

Our canoe team is split into five sub-teams that hold weekly meetings. Every sub-team welcomes new members throughout the semester and no experience is required to join any of the teams!

Aesthetics – Mondays at 5:15pm, KAP 167

Structures – Mondays at 6:30pm, SAL Commons

Construction – Thursdays at 4pm, KAP Lobby (go to KAP Basement if you're late) Note: meeting is at 6pm this week!

Mix Design– Fridays at 2pm, KAP lobby (go to KAP Basement if you're late)

Paddling – Sundays 9:30 AM in front of KAP, need to RSVP to canoe@uscasce.com

If you have any questions about canoe or want to discuss any component, come to co-captain Jake Hermle's Office Hours Fridays from 12-2 in the TA Room (KAP 239). Note: Jake will be in the basement mixing concrete during his office hours this week.

Steel Bridge Updates

The next Steel Bridge meeting will be this Friday, 11/1, at noon.
