USC ASCE Newsletter for February 4, 2014

Hi ,

Thanks for everyone who signed up to attend PSWC! We're looking forward to an awesome conference in April. Even though PSWC will be our primary focus for the next two months, we still need everyone's help to prepare the design teams for their competitions, especially those of you not attending.

All of our design teams have meetings this week, including Concrete Canoe Pour Day all day either this Sunday, 2/9 or next Sunday, 2/16 (stay tuned for updates). More details below. We're also holding a Speaker Meeting with reps from John A. Martin & Associates (structural engineering firm) on Thursday, Feb. 20, from 5:15 – 6:20 pm in KAP 158. Free Chick fil-A!

Four of us attended the Workshop for Student Chapter Leaders (WSCL) this past weekend, and we have lots of new & exciting ideas for USC ASCE in the mid-term future. Our 2013 Annual Report is also available now, featuring a summary of our work in 2013.

We'll be volunteering at the ASCE LA YMF Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition next Saturday 2/15 at CSUN. This is the high school equivalent of the Steel Bridge competition and we hope you can make it!

Finally, the deadline for the ASCE Scholarships has been extended to this Friday, 2/7, when submitting via email, so you can still apply. USC students have won many of these scholarships in the past.

PSWC 2014 Update

Our USC ASCE team for PSWC 2014 has been finalized. We'll be bringing 43 of our members to San Diego State University from April 2-6 to compete against 17 other universities in concrete canoe, steel bridge, environmental, geotechnical, surveying, technical paper, concrete bowling, scavenger hunt, sports teams, and several other events.

We're finalizing details of our travel plans now, while also organizing the smaller competition teams. Once we have all of individual schedules and teams filled out, team captains will coordinate meetings/practices to prepare for victory!

Our design teams can always use more help to design and build the concrete canoe, steel bridge, water treatment system, and geowall. Even if you aren't attending PSWC this year, you can make a big impact on our teams and help propel them to win!

Check out our calendars for updates on all of our meeting times and info for getting involved!
