USC ASCE Newsletter for March 11, 2014

2014 USC ASCE Shirt Design (back)

Hi ,

We're working hard to prepare all of our design teams for PSWC, which is in less than a month. We're holding lots of design team meetings to get ready; please come to as many as possible, even if you aren't going to PSWC.

We're ordering USC ASCE and design team shirts soon; if you want one, please fill out this form by tonight (3/11) at midnight. USC ASCE shirts are free for dues-paying members, so don't miss out!

The concrete canoe team is having extended meetings this week – we only have a few weeks until PSWC and there is a ton of sanding, patching and staining that needs to get done! There will be a meeting on Wednesday 4-8:30pm, and the Thursday and Friday meetings will go from 3-7pm. We are essentially in full crunch-time mode, so please come and help out as much as possible – even if you can only come to part of a meeting or can only make certain days. Even if you've never come to canoe we could really use your help - no experience necessary!

Membership Chair, USC ASCE

USC ASCE Sports Day!

Date: Saturday, 3/29
Time: 1-4pm
Location: TBA

We're hosting a sports day to get our sports teams ready for competition at PSWC. Sports will include volleyball, basketball, kan-jam and utimate frisbee. This is a great opportunity to hang out with other civil and environmental engineers!

Concrete Canoe Smashing Fundraiser!

Date: Wednesday, 3/26
Time: 10-3:30pm
Location: Outside KAP

Come help us demolish last year's concrete canoe: SC Traveler! This is a perfect opportunity to release your stress by swinging a hammer and breaking concrete. With over 400 pounds of concrete shaped into a 20' long canoe, this promises to be a great break in the middle of your day. Come by and help us obliterate the old canoe so that we have room for our new ones!

Concrete Canoe Updates

We're currently sanding the inside of the canoe, aiming to finish by the end of this week so that interior staining can be completed during spring break. We've finished our asteroid stand and are aiming to complete the WALL-E stand by the end of this week. We're also building our cutaway section, which demonstrates our concrete layers. The 7' tall space shuttle section has been carved, and we're adding the concrete and finishing it this week as well. Come help out during our extended meeting times!

General Meeting Times (meet in KAP Lobby):

Tuesdays 1-3pm

Wednesdays 4-8:30pm

Thursdays 3-7pm

Fridays 3-7pm

Aesthetics – Fridays 2-3pm, meet in KAP Lobby

Paddling – We're only holding a couple more practices, and the paddling team for PSWC has now been finalized. If you're interested, we'll be looking for more paddlers again in the fall!

Environmental Team Updates
