Hi ,

Welcome back to USC! We hope you enjoyed the first week of classes and the long weekend. This is our first newsletter for 2013-2014.

Our newsletters will go out every week or two and contain a summary of everything going on with USC ASCE—meetings, events, and more.

Don't remember what ASCE is? Interested in attending our first general meeting (this Thursday, from 5-6:30pm in KAP 158)? Want to know what we've been up to? Check out the details below.

Get ready for an exciting year of engineering!

What is USC ASCE? What is ASCE?

The American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter at the University of Southern California is a student-run organization that enriches the lives of civil and environmental engineering students through social events, community service, industry interaction, and engineering competitions.  USC ASCE serves as the link between the university and ASCE & the professional experience.

We have regular meetings and social events that foster member interaction with other civil engineering students. Corporate guest speakers provide members with valuable professional advice, as well as opportunities to meet with experts from the civil engineering industry.

We spend most of the year preparing for the Pacific South West Conference (PSWC), where 18 universities compete in events like concrete canoesteel bridge, and environmental design.

We post lots of USC ASCE updates on our blog; head over there to see more about what we do.

Big and little buddies

Big Buddy Program Application Deadline Extended

We've extended the deadline for new students to apply as little buddies in our big buddies mentoring program to Friday, September 6

USC ASCE's Big Buddy Program pairs incoming freshmen and transfer Civil and Environmental Engineering students with upperclassmen in the Sonny Astani Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The mentoring program serves as a resource for incoming freshmen by matching them with older ASCE members who can answer their questions about college life, classes, and civil/environmental engineering.

For more information and to apply to be a little buddy, visit the big buddies page on our website by this Friday:
