USC ASCE Newsletter for February 2, 2015

Hi ,

Thank you to all who signed up for PSWC 2015!  We’ll be bringing 52 members to compete in concrete canoesteel bridgeenvironmental designgeowall, transportation, dog house, surveying, concrete bowling, and many more events.

We would also like to thank the professionals from ASCE LA YMF (Younger Member Forum) who held a wonderful resume workshop on Thursday night!

Finally, good luck to USC CMAA who will be competing in the ASC "SPARKS" student competition in Sparks, Nevada this week!

Conference info:

Dates: April 8 - 12, 2015 (Wednesday - Sunday)
Location: Tucson, AZ (hosted by the University of Arizona)
Registration Deadline: Monday, January 26, 2015
Cost: $180

Registration is now open for USC ASCE members to attend PSWC 2015! The Pacific Southwest Conference (PSWC) brings together over 1000 civil and environmental engineering students for a plethora of competitions, ranging from concrete canoe and steel bridge to dog house, environmental design, sports, and more. USC ASCE members can register for the conference and find all details here.

We’re looking forward to an awesome conference and to defending our 3rd place overall finish from last year! Email if you have any questions.


Pizza Social

Come join us for some pizza and drinks before the design team meetings on Friday! We will be outside KAP with pizza and drinks at 12:30 PM. This will be a great way to meet others who are going to PSWC! Fill out this Google Form so we can know how much pizza to order!



NO MEETING THIS WEEK but we will start up again the following week.  No experience needed!  All are welcome to join (especially underclassmen)!

Dog House

Be sure to come to our meeting this Friday!  We will continue working on the dog house.


Steel Bridge

Location: KAP Basement

Steel Bridge has started fabricating the pieces of the bridge!  We still have a lot of work to do so everyone is welcome to attend!

Concrete Canoe

General Canoe Meeting: Friday, Feb. 6 @ 2:00 PM meet in KAP Lobby

We will be sanding the canoe mold in the basement in preparation for pour day on February 13!

Paddling: Sunday, Feb. 8  @ 9:30 AM, meet outside KAP (Canoe Captains will send an email later this week you can RSVP to)

The PENTA Building Group is a general contractor that specializes in hospitality/entertainment, gaming, education, healthcare, and tribal. They recently finished the major renovation of the SLS Hotel & Casino, formerly known as the Sahara. PENTA will also be on USC campus this coming semester, remodeling part of the USC Davidson Conference Center at the corner of Jefferson/Figueroa. Are you free Tuesday, February 24th from 8:00AM to 3:00PM? If so, ASCE LA YMF needs volunteers! A few of us from USC are going to be volunteering. We will be helping elementary school children. Contact if you are interested in attending and need a ride!
