Hi ,

Design teams are starting this week! Concrete Canoe's first meeting is on Thursday and Steel Bridge is holding a second round of measuring/cutting/grinding and welding workshops on Friday. More details are listed below.

Environmental Design and Geotech don't start until next semester, but you can sign up for any design team's mailing list here to get updates.

Thank you for everyone who's filled out their membership forms. For everyone else, membership forms are available here. You can submit the membership dues to our mailbox in KAP 213, to one of our officers, or at an upcoming meeting. Everyone who submits their dues by this Friday gets a free shirt!

RSVP forms for our first community service event are due this Sunday; we'll be helping build a new edible garden at Vine Street Elementary on Saturday, 9/28 (non-football-home-gameday) from 8:30-3. This is a great opportunity to get to know other Civil and Environmental Engineers, have fun building a project, and helping the community!

Canoe and bridge will be holding lots of events, and we'll continue hosting general meetings and guest speakers, so you should subscribe to our USC ASCE calendars to stay up to date on all of our events.

We hope to see you at our design team meetings and at other upcoming events!

Membership Chair, USC ASCE

Concrete Canoe Team Meeting

Join us this Thursday, 9/19, at 5pm for the first concrete canoe meeting of the semester, for new and returning members. Meet in the (center) KAP lobby.

We'll be going over all of the different components of our project, and how our sub-team meetings will work this year, focusing on:

  • Concrete Mix Design
  • Structural Design and Analysis
  • Canoe Construction
  • Aesthetic Design
  • Canoe Paddling!

If you can't make our first meeting, email us at and we'll make sure you get all of the info we cover.

Steel Bridge Meetings

Thanks to everyone who came out to our sessions today! We're holding introductory sessions on different components of steel bridge construction again on Friday, with the following schedule:

  • Friday, 12:00-12:50pm: Measuring, Cutting, Grinding Session
  • Friday 1:10-2:00pm: Welding Session

If you're interested in getting involved with steel bridge, but can't make any sessions, email us at and we'll make sure you're on the steel bridge mailing list.

Build an Edible Garden

Vine St. Elementary Community Service: Edible Garden

We'll be helping build a new edible garden at Vine Street Elementary! This volunteer event is organized by Enrich LA, a nonprofit organization aimed to benefit students and communities through building gardens at schools. Our tasks may range from “gardening, to carpentry, to plumbing, to sign painting and really whatever it takes to install a garden.”

This is a great way to help the community while bonding with your fellow ASCE friends as well as other volunteers. The event is on Saturday, 9/28 from 8:30-3 (no home football game that day). Lunch will be provided!

Please RSVP here by Sunday, 9/22 (note that you also need to RSVP to Enrich LA, follow the instructions on the form).

CEE Department Tailgate

The Civil and Environmental Engineering department is holding a tailgate this Saturday! Doc will be grilling again this year, so it's bound to be delicious...
