2015 ASCE Convention Information

Hi ,

As we gear up for summer break, it's time to start thinking about a big ASCE opportunity for this fall: the annual ASCE Convention. This year's convention will be in New York City, October 11-15, 2015.

If you are interested in attending the convention, you are required to apply for the $1000 student sponsorship provided by ASCE LA YMF (details below). We will also apply for funding from several sources at USC, but the estimated costs (not including food and ground transportation) are $1000. Best-case-scenario, the cost could be lowered to as low as $200-300 with funding, but start saving up either way. The YMF sponsorship application also serves as your application to attend with USC ASCE and is due by June 15, 2015.

This newsletter contains information about this year's conference in New York, ASCE LA YMF conference sponsorship information, and summaries from previous ASCE national conferences from our blog. The convention is a great way to learn more about the professional levels of ASCE.

Our travel team will be selected from the USC ASCE members that submit essays for the YMF sponsorship, based on the quality of the essay and involvement in USC ASCE. We plan to bring 4-8 members based on interest and funding. I hope you will consider joining us for this special event!

Nick Halsey
2015-16 President

2015 ASCE Convention, New York, New York

The ASCE Convention is the Society flagship membership event. It is the single annual opportunity that the entire Society is represented together and therefore needs to reflect the diversity that ASCE encompasses. The program for the Convention will be of an integrated, cross-cultural, technical, and educational nature.

Conference topics:

• State of the industry and profession

• Professional, leadership, and technical training

• Cross-discipline technical projects

• Causes, effects, and mitigation of natural and man-made catastrophes

• ASCE strategic issues and public policy

• Significant projects

• History & heritage

For students, the convention is an excellent opportunity to meet and network with industry professionals from around the country. Check out the convention website for more information.
