USC ASCE Newsletter for October 26, 2015

Hi ,

We are having a Mini-PSWC on November 15th! This is a great opportunity to get involved and really see what the actual competition is all about! Also, this Saturday, November 7th, we are having an ASCE tailgate near Taper Hall! Come enjoy some food and hang out before the game.

Design teams are continuing their weekly meetings and would love new members to sign up. We also have a couple social events coming up that you don't want to miss! Follow us on social media for constant updates on future events and new opportunities to be involved!

We are also looking for a captain for the Geotech Design Competition. No experience is required! For more information, contact an e-board member or email

The membership form is available here!  Dues are $30. You can submit the membership dues to our mailbox in KAP 213, to our treasurer Jason Loui, your design team captains or at an upcoming meeting.

Saina Vosoghi & Branden Currey
Co-Membership Chairs,

On Sunday, November 15th,  we will be having a Mini-PSWC with concrete canoe races, sports, and free food with several other schools from the LA section of ASCE as well as YMF (the Younger Member's Forum that includes young professionals in ASCE). Everything is free to you but the foodfriendfunship and generally unrestrained happiness is priceless! Sign up by next Monday night (November 9th) at midnight using this link:

Feel free to fraternize with the frienemies in the food- and fun-laden fellowship of the first inaugural Mini-PSWC! Though the main event is a series of purely for-fun concrete canoe races with old canoes from USC, UCLA, Pomona, and Long Beach, we will also be featuring many loosely organized sports including volleyball and ultimate frisbee as well as possibly the objectively truest joy to college students across the board - free food! The LA Section Younger Member's Forum will also be in attendance, and have promised an exciting impromptu event in the spirit of the ones at real-PSWC. The event will be on Sunday, November 15th, from roughly 10 am-4 pm, and will be hosted at Mother's Beach in Long Beach where actual PSWC 2016 will be held (address: 5839 E Appian Way, Long Beach, CA 90802). It is about a 35 minutes drive from USC. Attendance, food (burgers and hotdogs with veggie burgers available for vegetarians), and rides are free, so there's no reason not to come out!

Mock Interviews with ASCE LA YMF

Mock Interviews with ASCE LA YMF

With the career fair a couple of weeks behind us and our resumes submitted to recruiters, the next step to getting that dream job or internship is the interview. Three guests from the Los Angeles Younger Members Forum (LA YMF) dropped by on Thursday night to give us some tips!

We began the night with a presentation by LA YMF President Phil Davies discussing some general hints for acing the interview, and then received a list of commonly asked interview questions that will definitely come in handy during our interview preparations. Our guest interviewers then split up into three separate rooms, and every USC ASCE member got a chance to have a one-on-one mock interview. Overall, the event was extremely helpful; we will definitely be using everything we learned in our upcoming interviews! We would like to extend a huge thank you to the LA YMF members that took time out of their busy schedules to come out and help us!
