This past weekend, USC ASCE teamed up with UCLA to have a joint beach day! We spent the afternoon at Santa Monica hanging out and getting to know each other, as well as playing sports like volleyball and ultimate frisbee. We can’t wait to compete in sports at PSWC, and also see our friends from UCLA! Check out some pictures of the day!
Since a big part of PSWC (Pacific Southwest Conference) is all the different sports competitions, it is important we train so we can beat the other schools! Especially after our first place finish in Ultimate Frisbee last year, we are hoping to win even more sports this year. Every month we have a sports day, which is where we all meet up and practice sports together. It is a fun way to hangout and get some exercise!
For this month’s sports day we focused on volleyball, since we are hopeful it will make a reappearance at PSWC this year! We learned that the key to volleyball is communication and that it is very important to call the ball and say “MINE!” Our volleyball team now looks ready to go!
Yesterday members from YMF (The Younger Members Forum) and MLAB (Metropolitan Los Angeles Branch) stopped by for a Resume Workshop! Since they are working professionals in the Los Angeles area, they are full of great advice and feedback to get our resumes ready for the USC Viterbi Career Fair this upcoming week!
Our members were asked to send in their resume a week before so that the members from YMF and MLAB could look them over beforehand. That way at the workshop we received great feedback right away, and a copy of our resume with comments on it to take home.
Thanks to YMF and MLAB for their help in making this event so successful!
Last night USC ASCE hosted an internship panel! Panelists had a wide variety of internships in construction, structural, and environmental. Questions that were covered included the application process, typical interview questions, how to talk to recruiters, and what your resume should look like! It was very helpful and informative, especially for freshmen who have never been a career fair.
Then, we headed over to Blaze Pizza to raise some money for our club. Of course the pizza was delicious, and it was a great way to hang out and get to know each other better!
Last week, the 2015-2016 Big Buddy program was officially launched with a kickoff mixer! While snacking on pizza and ice cream, all the little buddies and big buddies introduced themselves and started talking. The main highlight of the night was a round of “speed dating”, where every little and big got to talk to each other!
At the end of the night, little buddies and big buddies were matched up! Although all the buddy pairings will certainly hang out on their own, we are looking forward to planning more fun events where all the buddies can hang out together!
During the first weekend of school our 2015-2016 E-Board had a retreat! We headed to the bowling alley to put our skills to the test. With the E-Board divided into two lanes, a competition began to see which lane could get the higher overall score! Congrats to the “right lane,” consisting of Tyler, Luyue, Lucy, Erin, Jessica, and Kai who were victorious!
Other highlights included using the large dinosaur ramps to ensure a spare, getting to know each other afterwards at a family dinner, and when out of no where Lucy suddenly became really really good at bowling. She must have been fooling us on the first game!
We are excited to work together for the rest of the year and plan some remarkable events for USC ASCE.
